March 2010

In March, our guest on Let’s Talk with Ed Sardella is Bob Rohde, President and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. The Dumb Friends League is celebrating 100 years of protecting animals in our community and is the largest animal shelter in the Rocky Mountain Region. Ed and Bob discuss current animal welfare issues and what the Dumb Friends League is doing to address them. Bob also talks about how the League works with other shelters in our community to help increase the number of animals that are saved each year.

February 2010

In February, our guest on Let's Talk with Ed Sardella is Shari Shink, Founder and Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center. Shink was also a member of Governor Ritter's Child Welfare Action Committee that was assembled in 2008 and she has been an advocate for abused and neglected children for nearly 30 years. The committee addressed concerns of child welfare and safety after 13 children died in 2007 who all came from families with contact with Social Services. Ed and Shari will discuss the 29 recommendations from the Child Welfare Action Committee and look into other concerns and issues surrounding the safety of children in Colorado.

January 2010

In January, Let’s Talk welcomes Dr. Dan Arvizu, Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden. NREL is at the forefront of developing renewable energy technologies in the United States and is playing a major role in shaping U.S. energy policy. Ed and Dr. Arvizu talk about NREL’s role in American energy policy and the challenges facing renewable energy development. Dr. Arvizu also highlights some of the advancing technologies that NREL is researching that we may see in the future.

December 2009

In December, Let’s Talk welcomes Kim Jordan, CEO of New Belgium Brewing Company of Fort Collins. Kim and Ed talk about what it means to be a Craft Beer brewer and how some of their more popular beers like Fat Tire, Sunshine Wheat and Skinny Dip were inspired. Ed and Kim also talk about how New Belgium was the very first brewery to run completely off of wind power and how they continue to make strides to increase the environmental sustainability of their beers and their brewery.

November 2009

In November, Let’s Talk welcomes former Denver Bronco, Tom Nalen. Tom was a five time Pro-Bowler and was the last member of the Super Bowl Champion teams to retire. Ed and Tom talk about his professional football career, including his reputation as one of the silent members of the Denver Broncos legendary offensive line. Ed and Tom also talk about how Tom is helping to mold future football players as an assistant football coach at South High School.

October 2009

In October, Let’s Talk welcomes Christine Benero, President and CEO of the Mile High United Way. Christine and Ed discuss the creative ways Colorado’s non-profits are managing to stay afloat in today’s economic climate. Ed and Christine also talk about the United Way’s role in helping coordinate non-profit organizations and state agencies in order to bring greater services to people throughout the metro area.

September 2009

In September, Let’s Talk welcomes United States Representative Ed Perlmutter from Colorado’s 7th district. Congressman Perlmutter and Ed discuss the major issues hitting congress and Colorado including the current Health Care proposal, Renewable Energy, Stimulus funds and status of the financial system bailout. Rep. Perlmutter also discusses his experiences with recent Town Hall meetings and other ways constituents can directly get involved.

Speaker Carroll and Ed discuss the challenges the state legislature face in balancing the budget amidst a set of complicated constitutional constraints.
